6 Focus Tips For ADHD Entrepreneurs

Do you need help focusing on work - here are our 6 best focus tips for adults with adhd. We all hear the common business tips, hacks, and best practices, but typically, those are usually catered toward neurotypical brains. Today, we're serving you our favorite tips for neurodivergent brains so you can implement them too.

Monotasking

What is monotasking and why is it beneficial for people with adhd? It’s basically the opposite of multitasking. Rather than trying to focus on multiple tasks at a time, your goal is focus on one task before moving on to the next. A lot easier said than done especially if you’re neurodivergent like me.

According to Inc.com - “monotasking keeps the brain healthy and you more productive”. So pretty much its also the opposite of toxic productivity culture.

As someone who has ADHD - I’ve found the best way to practice monotasking is through accountability groups. I’m a founding member of SpaceTime MonoTasking - a startup business co-founded by Anna Pugh and Marisa Jo (yes the same Marisa that’s been hanging out with Her Messy Bun for the last year - can we all just do a quick happy dance for her?!). If you want to try it - your first session is free but then you can use code DANIELLE10 for $10 off your first month.

Extra benefits of SpaceTime MonoTasking:

  • scheduled body doubling

  • work off a schedule with soft accountability

  • provides clear breaks in your day

Loops Earplugs

If you’re easily distracted or annoyed by extra noise - cars driving by, the sound of the fridge, an airplane over head… your child’s iPad on blast - Loops Earplugs reduce the sound without completely getting rid of you ability to hear your surrounding. If you want to check them out - here’s 20% off all the product.

Changing Your Clothes

For a while, I would wake up and stay in my pjs because I’m self-employed so why not. Then I realized that as the day went on, I would just want to get back into bed. Changing your clothes creates a trigger in your head that it’s time to work.

I don’t change into anything fancy, and honestly I’m pretty sure everything I own can be considered pajamas, but the act of changing out of what I slept in triggers my brain to focus on work.

Morning pages + Meditiation

As of last year, morning pages has been recognized as a meditative practice that helps you clear your mind, focus and feel less anxious throughout the day. I’ve been doing morning pages for almost 6 years and I host daily morning pages with in my Consciously Creative membership.

More benefits to morning pages:

  • More confidence

  • Silence your imposter syndrome

  • Clear understanding of your goals

  • Tap into your creative flow

  • Intentional with your decisions

  • Proud of your accomplishments

  • Self-awareness

  • Business mindset

  • Energized

Scheduling your day, downtime and even fun time

One of the biggest adjustments I’ve had to make as an entrepreneur was learning to be stricter with my time. In the early stages you’re more prone to getting off track because you’re trying to do it all. However, getting stricter with my time made focusing easier.

A few ways that helped me stay focused with scheduling:

  • finding a calendar system that works for you

  • post it note visibility

Celebrate the wins vs agonizing over the details

The smallest wins can lead the biggest successes. Remember, the more you celebrate, the more there is to celebrate!
